Here it is folks, the press release for the best news ever:
Writers Adventure Camp Awards “Delightful” Apocalyptic Tale
Writers Adventure Camp and The Walrus magazine are pleased to announce the winner of the inaugural Get to The Point! National Fiction Contest:
“Thin Crust,” by Erin MacNair of North Vancouver.
MacNair wins full tuition to this year’s Writers Adventure Camp (June 8th though 12th), resort accommodation courtesy of Legends Whistler Creek, and publication in The Walrus.
Congratulations as well to our runners-up, “Vampire Baby Zombie Mama” by Stephany Aulenback of Bridgewater, Nova Scotia, and “Crow/Bride” by Helen Polychronakos of Vancouver.
“‘Thin Crust’ is a delightful parable about the end of the world,” says final judge and two-time Giller-Prize finalist Heather O’Neill. “It is a story about the interconnectivity of people on the earth and the sweet and fragile nature of everything that happens on it. It is a tale of the apocalypse told in tiny, precise, and perfect moments.”
I am extremely honoured. Thank you to the Point, To Zsuzsi Gartner for organizing this camp and motivating me with her amazing prose/wit/style, to Heather O’Neill for what must have been a hard decision (thankyouthankyouthankyou) and for the Walrus, for the amazing opportunity.
Right now I am standing on a podium in my living room, waving like the Queen.
Actually it’s just a pile of laundry, but as you know, I like to pretend.
